Market Science on May 30th was all about Fungi!
On May 30th we called in for help from the UMN Mycology Club, and had a table full of collected fungi and fun activities.
Those stopping by took a look at the fruiting bodies of basidio- and ascomycetes — including a really nice conk from a bracket fungi growing on an oak tree and some mushrooms that the UMN Mycology club were growing. We also had some dissecting scopes up to look at the gill sections from a mushroom. Also those who were feeling artistic could color in an Amanita sp. mushroom too.
There was a game of “Guess if there’s fungi in it,” where people would see if they knew which food products contained fungi — ranging from vitamins, and beer to canned green beans and miso soup mix (yes, yes, no, yes; respectively). During that we heard a lot of “interesting!”, “I did not know that,” and a couple “I hope there’s not fungi in that.”
Overall, it was a great day!
