Happy Thursday! This week’s featured scientist is Laura Toro-Gonzalez, a University of Minnesota graduate student. She is a part of the Powers Lab and in the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology. Laura is passionate about tropical ecology, restoration ecology, conservation biology, plant physiology, and soil ecology.
Laura’s current research is about how plants access nutrients in tropical dry forests and how that information can be used to plan more cost-effective restoration projects. Her favorite part about her work is that she gets the opportunity to visit forests around the world. However, the most challenging part is having to plan the logistics of her research from Minnesota.
Outside of work, Laura is passionate about teaching, partaking in DEI and social justice initiatives, and playing and watching sports.
We hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about Laura and her work today. Come back next Thursday to check out who our next featured scientist is!
